Privacy Policy

Screwify (screwify.space) is two things, both covered by this policy:
- The Screwify extension – a free Chrome extension that slows down music and video playing in your browser, like a record, and adds effects such as reverb and tape character.
- Screwify Uploader (shown as “Screwify” on Google’s consent screen) – a personal tool run by the Screwify team on its own computer. It uploads videos made by Screwify – slowed-down music clips – to Screwify’s own YouTube channel and, as drafts, to the Screwify TikTok account. It is not offered to other users and does not access anyone else’s account.
In short: Screwify has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no server of its own, and it does not collect, sell or share personal data.
The Screwify extension
- Your settings – speed, tape chew, tone, reverb, panel language, your own named presets, and whether the effect is on – are saved in your browser’s local extension storage. They are not synced and not sent anywhere.
- The list of sites where you turned the effect on (site addresses only, such as
https://music.youtube.com) is kept in the same storage, so the effect comes back on those sites by itself. It is not synced or sent anywhere either. - Colors and fonts of those sites (background and text color, font names and the addresses of their font files) are kept in the same storage, so the panel can match the site even before the page has responded. They are not synced or sent anywhere either.
- Audio of the page you are listening to is processed inside your browser to apply the effects, draw the waveform and make scratching possible. A few seconds of recent audio are kept in memory for the scratch effect and discarded when the page is closed. Audio is never recorded to disk or transmitted.
- Information about the open page – its address, title, colors, fonts, the name and cover of the playing track – is read only to show it in the panel and to style the panel like the site. It stays in your browser.
Network requests the extension makes
The extension never contacts a server run by Screwify. To match the look of the site you are on, the side panel may download that site’s own font files and the cover image of the playing track from the same servers the site itself loads them from. These are ordinary requests, like the ones your browser already makes when you open the site.
Share links
The Share button puts a link to screwify.space on your clipboard. After the # sign the link carries the address of the page you have open, a short code of your effect settings (for example screwed=s70-c50-t20) and the title of the playing track. The link contains nothing else from the extension. Browsers do not send the part of an address after # to the server, so neither the track address nor its title is transmitted to that page.
The page is hosted on GitHub Pages; as with any website, GitHub receives ordinary technical request data (such as the IP address). If the link points to YouTube, the page shows the video’s cover image and loads it from YouTube’s servers. When someone with Screwify installed opens such a link, the page opens the track right away: the settings from the link are applied in their browser and the code is removed from the address before the site sees it. For someone without the extension the page shows the track title, the settings and an install button.
Extension permissions
- Access to all sites – needed so the effect can work with the player of any site you open. Page content is not collected.
- Storage – saves your settings locally.
- Side panel – shows the extension’s interface.
- Favicon – reads the site icon to pick an accent color for the panel.
- Clipboard (write only) – copies the share link. The extension never reads your clipboard.
YouTube (Google APIs)
- What it asks Google for: one permission,
youtube.upload(“Manage your YouTube videos” – upload only), granted by the owner of the Screwify channel. - What it receives from Google: an OAuth access token and refresh token for the Screwify channel. It does not request or receive your name, email, contacts, watch history, subscriptions, comments or any other Google user data.
- How it uses it: only to upload Screwify’s own videos with their titles, descriptions and tags to the Screwify channel. It does not read, analyse or change any other videos or channels. It does not generate or edit images or videos of people with AI, and is never used to create intimate or sexual imagery.
- Where it is stored: the tokens are kept only in a local file on the Screwify team’s computer. They are never sent anywhere except Google’s own servers when a video is uploaded.
- Sharing: data from Google APIs is not sold, shared or transferred to anyone, not used for advertising, and not used to train or improve AI or machine-learning models.
- Retention and deletion: the tokens are kept until access is revoked or the tool is no longer used, then the local file is deleted. Access can be revoked at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions; the stored tokens then stop working.
- Limited Use: Screwify’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. YouTube uploads are also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
TikTok
- What it receives from TikTok: an access token, a refresh token and the account’s open ID, needed to upload videos.
- Where it is stored: only in a local file on the Screwify team’s computer. Nothing is sent to any server other than TikTok’s API.
- What it does not do: it does not read, collect, sell or share any data about other TikTok users, followers or viewers.
- Removing access: revoke the app in TikTok (Settings – Security – Manage app permissions); the local tokens then stop working.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
